The start of something yummy

Yes, wine

It’s Wine Time!

We’ve been talking about this for more than a year, and now I’m getting off my @ss!! It’s time to make some wine!

Of course, we have some back story to go through first.

Kelly and I are beer & wine people. Yes, you should know that already. We love to taste, drink and discover new places. In about 2015, she told me she wanted a wine kit. She wanted to make her own wine. As I do with most things, I said “OK.” Then proceeded to buy all the equipment and supplies needed.

I was selling cruises at the time and saved up all my Carnival gift cards. So, almost free!

Our first batch was a Resiling, that we named Ripzilla Resiling. Morgan was and still is a fan of Godzilla, so we put a Godzilla on the label. It was from a kit, and it was good. We were now hooked.

Our second batch was a Chianti. And that was probably the best Chianti I’ve had. I’ve wanted to make another batch of that since the last bottle was emptied.

Then Kelly found a recipe for a fruit wine. A triple berry called DangerDave’s Dragon’s Blood. Morgan was big into dragons, so, there you go. Again, it was great! We were onto something. Then we started to tweak the recipe. We used peaches, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, and kiwi. Most were good. Some, like watermelon, not so much.

Each batch makes about 32 bottles. We didn’t drink all of them. We handed out a lot. Many moons later, people are still asking when we are going to make more.

Well, probably this Sunday.

Dragon’s Lair Fermentors

We loved making, sharing and got so many positive reviews, we decided we should open our own place. We did some due diligence, and well, life got in the way.

I’ve toyed with it ever since. We would not be bound by just wine. We could make whatever we wanted. Keep it small batch and build a community around it. Maybe still in our future?

Let’s see how this batch turns out.

Blueberries!!

We decided to do blueberry wine since it seems to be the best we’ve made. Followed VERY closely by strawberry. To this day, we still taste other people’s fruit wine and compare ours to theirs. Not to brag, ours is almost always better.

The supplies are ordered, just have to get a few more items from the grocery store Sunday and we are on our way!

I’m excited. It’s pretty labor intensive and so worth it. More to follow!

Have a great weekend!
