Soak in your life

We are never promised tomorrow

What should life really be about?

Before I get into this, if you haven’t heard about the Maui fire. Please stop and take a moment to look it up. A village that has been around since the 1700’s is gone. Not just burned. Gone…

I wish all the best to the Hawaiians and everyone affected by the fire. Makes you think about your own situation and what would happen if you lost it all.

No more stuff

I started this post earlier this week and now, with what’s going on in Hawaii, it hits home more.

The past few weeks we’ve spent a little more money than I usually like to. We aren’t wealthy, and we have lots of stuff. LOTS of stuff. I almost took a picture of the garage this morning to show you what I mean. I decided against it.

We have officially made a shift in the way we are living. Talking about the potential of moving to Ireland made us think about some things. First, we can’t. Well, we could and it would be a pain in the @ss.

Let the purge begin!

The two of us have been thinking about the amount of stuff we have all week. Funny thing is, we never told each other. We are truly on the same wave length. We sat down last night and laid out what we each of us want to do.

My first goal is to tackle the garage. It’s not the first time and not the worst. There are things in there we have had for years and don’t use. I was immediately reminded that Christmas and Halloween are in the garage. They are marked safe.

That stays as does our beer & wine making equipment. (More to come on that. Not today.) I don’t know where to start on what goes. Most will be put on FB marketplace and if it doesn’t sell in a week, trash or Goodwill.

Why?

Life is meant to be lived and not spent collecting stuff. A fire can wipe all that out in an instant. What it can’t erase are the memories you collect in your head.

We kicked off our experience spree this past weekend with friends going to a concert. We spent more than we expected. So worth it. This fall we have much more planned. Our annual Halloween camping, a beer & wine event, the oddities market, and Vampire Ball. I am sure we will be squeezing a few more things in there too.

Old guy advice of the week. Get out there. Do something you haven’t and something you’ve always wanted to do.
