Back to it after the holiday
Don't waste holiday time
Sucks going back to work after the holiday, don’t it?
Especially the 4 day weekend.
I would love to hear what you did over the holiday. Did you spend time with friends & family? Go anywhere? Do nothing? I’m curious. Tell me.
Enjoy your time off
I wrote a post on LinkedIn about the importance of taking time off. Read it here.
As a recruiter, I talk to people from everywhere. My specialty, automotive fixed operations. Technicians, service advisors, parts and collision teams. The people who work the hardest and make the biggest profit impact on dealerships.
I’ve noticed a trend. Many people telling me,
I don’t take vacation
I work 12-14 hours a day
On my days off I’m calling customers
This is not healthy. We all need time off. You are not a machine and your mind and body need time to recoup, not work.
It’s sad it takes a government holiday to get people to stop working. I appreciate your dedication and desire to succeed. However, if you don’t take care of your mental and physical health, you won’t be able to succeed.
A long time ago, in a career far, far away..
I worked in hospitality, hotels. They’re open 24/7/365 (and a quarter). When I managed, I worked 16+ hour days. When night audit called in, guess who worked? Me.
My employers told me, “we hired other people to help you run the property.” Yes, you did. I never headed that advice & this contributed to bad things occurring in my youth.
I’ve escaped hotels 3 times. And I’m not going back.
The point…
There is an 80’s song by The Godfathers, “Birth School Work Death.” That’s our species to a tee. We’re born to be taught a skill to contribute to society and die.
You may not notice there are gaps between those words. That’s life. And what you fill those gaps with is up to you. Don’t cram more work in there.
Live, experience, share & grow.
I get out, meet new people, create, and enjoy family & friends time. Yes, and drink. I’m not accumulating stuff anymore. I want to experience.
You have 3 days until the weekend.
Smile, get to it and take advantage of the time you have to do what you want.
Experience life.
